Meet the 2009-2010 Executive Board Members


President: Joi Lecznar
Joi served on the board this past year as Secretary, then stepped up to serve as President-elect when Dave McKinney, ABC, APR, could no longer hold that office due to a change in work responsibilities. Joi is the director of Regional Communication at BG Group, an integrated natural gas company headquartered in the United Kingdom. Before joining BG Group, Joi had her own firm, TopDog Communication and Development, where she specialized in internal communication and human resources development. Previously, Joi was the regional development director at JPMorgan Chase & Co., where she managed a human resources team who directed organizational development strategy and activities for 20,000 employees in Texas. Joi graduated with distinction from the University of Nebraska, majoring in journalism and communication, completed a certificate in executive business education at the Smith College Consortium, and has received advanced facilitation and diversity training.
 
 
President-Elect: Nancy Trowbridge
Nancy has served the board for two years as Vice President of Finance. She is the director of Communications for The Menninger Clinic, an international psychiatric center. She has more than 15 consecutive years membership in IABC with board positions in professional development (Topeka, Kansas, chapter), communications contest judging and as vice president of finance in Houston. She has also helped plan a regional IABC conference. Nancy has a bachelor's of science degree in journalism and before entering the employee communications-media relations-corporate communications field, she worked five years at two daily newspapers as a lifestyle and postsecondary education reporter/photographer.

 
Vice President, Professional Development: Bill Tanner
This will be Bill's first board role for the IABC Houston chapter. Bill joined Shell in April 2009 as senior manager of Media Relations and Crisis Communications.  Previously, he worked at ConocoPhillips where he served as a team lead in Corporate Communications. In this role, Bill oversaw the development and implementation of business unit communication initiatives, media relations, crisis communications and emergency response. Bill is a veteran of the energy industry, having held roles in communications, public affairs and government relations for Valero and ExxonMobil before joining ConocoPhillips. He is a member of the Media Relations Sub-committee of the American Petroleum Institute, as well as the Communications Committees of both the U.S. Climate Action Partnership and the Center for Liquefied Natural Gas. Before his career in energy communications, Bill served as a staff member for various elected officials in California and was formerly a special agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. He has more than 15 years of active and reserve service as a cryptologic technician in the U.S. Navy and holds a degree in political science from California State University-Northridge.

Vice President, Marketing: Merrisa Turner
Merrisa served the board last year as Vice President of Web Communications and in 2007 as Communications Chair. Merrisa is a marketing and communications director for TR Moore & Company, a Houston-based CPA and consulting firm. She has a bachelor's of arts degree in journalism with an emphasis in public relations from Texas A&M University, and has 10 years experience in corporate and marketing communications in the professional services industry.


Vice President, Member Services: Robin Leeder
Robin served the board last year as Vice President of Member Services and the year before as Director of Hospitality. She graduated from the University of Maryland in 1978 and moved to Houston in 1981 to work in business development for Oneworks, a pre-press firm. She successfully developed and managed more than 100 client accounts there for 10 years before joining Griffin Creative Company with her husband Andre in 1991. Griffin Creative has grown into a comprehensive boutique design firm providing high-end print and multimedia development to Fortune 500 companies and small businesses alike. Robin oversees all aspects of business management and development for the firm, and just opened a second office in Denver, Colorado. She has been married 25 years and has three daughters, all working in the design industry today.


Vice President, Finance: Stephen Rassenfoss
Stephen joined the board last year as Director of Research and Evaluation. He is a writer and editor working for businesses, mostly in energy. He joined the IABC Houston chapter a year ago. As research director, he has expanded the number of surveys and has introduced members to a paperless program evaluation process by conducting them online. Before starting his business, SRX Word Work, Stephen was an assistant business editor for the Houston Chronicle. He had also been a reporter in Fort Worth, Jackson, Miss., and Chicago. He graduated with a bachelor's of science degree in communications from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.



Secretary: Maria Murray-Dozlic
Maria Murray-Dozlic was appointed Secretary by President Joi Lecznar.  A competent, creative change leader and management consultant with over 15 years of professional experience in Energy and IT, Maria has had a notable career partnering with executives, operations and IT system implementations teams in leading employees through change initiatives and implementing corporate best practices. As Director, Change Management within the OE organization for Sysco Corporation, the $38B global leader in selling, marketing and distributing food products to restaurants, healthcare and educational facilities, lodging establishments and other customers, Maria supports the Merchandising & Supply Chain organization in designing, implementing, and refining business improvement efforts so that planned benefits are achieved more quickly and with less disruption. Previously, Maria was with Shell Oil Products as a Change Manager for the Downstream Manufacturing business where she was responsible for managing change and communications efforts in excess of US$4M in project scope. Prior to Shell, Maria spent seven years with BP in a variety of senior change and strategic communications roles based in Chicago, London and Houston. Additionally, Maria spent seven years with Ketchum/Stromberg Consulting in Los Angeles as a Senior Consultant leading and managing employee communication efforts effecting cultural change, business process design & implementation, communication integration, organizational alignment and external perceptions in accounts such as Amoco, 3M, ARCO, Southern Company and US Bancorp. Maria is a MBA graduate of University of Phoenix and has received advanced training in facilitation and Six Sigma. This will be Maria’s first IABC/Houston board position. 

Past President: Theresa Parker
Theresa Parker is a writer with the Torma Communications team, providing multimedia editorial services to Fortune 500 companies. Torma celebrated its 25th anniversary in business last year and Theresa has been with the firm for 11 years. Prior to that, she worked in Corporate Communications at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital and Houston Lighting & Power Company. After earning her bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Houston, the native Houstonian worked in U of H Sports Information and the Hartman Newspaper Group in Fort Bend County. She has filled several volunteer roles with IABC/Houston including hospitality, Bronze Quill, judging and professional development. As Past President, Theresa looks forward to starting a Leadership Alumni Council and is currently serving with Susan Burnell, APR, as co-chair of the IABC Southern Region Conference in Houston on Oct. 22-24.
