IABC/Houston Earns Two Chapter Management Awards

The Houston chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC/Houston) has been honored with two awards for outstanding chapter management.  The International Association recently held its 2006 Leadership Institute conference, where the Houston chapter was honored with an award of excellence for Professional Development and an award of merit for Communications. 
 
IABC/Houston President Pam McConathy attributes the success to "a great board of directors who are creative, engaged and committed to excellence in the communications industry."
 
IABC's Chapter Management Awards recognize the leadership abilities, management skills, creativity and teamwork of outstanding volunteer chapter leaders worldwide.  Awards are presented in three divisions: small, mid-size and large chapters.  Within those divisions are six categories: membership marketing, professional development, financial management, leadership development, communication, and community and educational involvement.

IABC Houston Wins International Awards


Award of Excellence for Communication; Awards of Merit for Professional Development, Finance and Leadership

Houston - March 2006 - The Houston chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) has been awarded four awards for outstanding chapter management. IABC Houston won an award of excellence in the Communication category and awards of merit in the Professional Development, Finance and Leadership categories. The awards were announced at the 2006 Leadership Institute conference in Charlotte, North Carolina.

IABC’s Chapter Management Awards recognize the leadership abilities, management skills, creativity and teamwork of outstanding volunteer chapter leaders worldwide. Awards are presented in three divisions: small, mid-size and large chapters. Within those divisions are six categories: membership marketing, professional development, financial management, leadership development, communication, and community and educational involvement.

Congratulating IABC Houston on its awards, IABC President Julie Freeman, ABC, APR, said, “IABC’s chapter management awards represent best practices in chapter management and leadership and serve as benchmarks for other chapters. This award recognizes IABC Houston dedicated team of volunteer leaders and members for their commitment towards promoting the goals and objectives of the organization at the local level. “It is really our Board leadership that achieved all of these goals. Houston communicators win top District and International awards -- recognizing IABC/Houston as leader among 120 chapters worldwide

 

Houston (December 2, 1998) -- One month after winning Outstanding Chapter at the district level, the Houston chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) was crowned a champion again. On November 14, the 360-member chapter was named IABC 1998 Chapter of the Year at the association's annual Chapter Management Award program.

This is the fifth time in the past two decades that Houston has won the top district award, and the first time in 18 years that it has won the top international award. In addition to receiving the top honor of being named Chapter of the Year, Houston scored four awards of excellence out of six categories and was awarded Outstanding Large Chapter.

With our recent recognition as Outstanding Chapter for District 5, we've won the equivalent of the Triple Crown, said Patricia Schroeder, ABC, immediate past president of the IABC/Houston chapter. We are the IABC role model for chapter performance, chapter involvement, community action and communication excellence.

The award achievements are a testament to the commitment and dedication of the Houston members. In addition to high volunteerism, the criteria for the chapter awards includes membership recruiting and retention, professional development program content and quality, financial management, leadership training, and the quality and effectiveness of communications with members.

The International Association of Business Communicators is a learning community of 13,000 professionals. Members of 120 chapters worldwide are committed to improving the effectiveness of organizations through strategic communication. IABC provides tools, information and support for members to excel in their jobs and become leaders in their fields.
