Maggiano'sIf developing a communications plan for your organization or client is on your to-do list for 2009, help is on the way.
Dr. Peter Bishop, futurist, and coordinator of the graduate program in Futures Studies at the University of Houston, will introduce attendees of this interactive workshop to strategic foresight concepts, procedures and tools that will help us anticipate change and influence the long-term effectiveness of our planning efforts.
Drawing content from a new five-day certification seminar he is teaching at UH in Strategic Foresight, Dr. Bishop will cover how communications planners can scan the environment and analyze current trends, anticipate disruptive futures and effectively set strategic direction.
Pam McConathy, principal with Foresight Communications Group, and a graduate student in Futures Studies at UH, will provide insight into how she uses strategic foresight methods in developing communications plans for her clients.

Dr. Peter Bishop is an Associate Professor of Strategic Foresight and Coordinator of the graduate program in Futures Studies at the University of Houston. Dr. Bishop specializes in techniques for long term forecasting and planning. He has published a book on that subject, Thinking about the Future: Guidelines for Strategic Foresight, with co-author Andy Hines.
He also delivers keynote addresses and conducts seminars on the future for business, government and not-for-profit organizations, and facilitates groups in developing scenarios, visions and strategic plans for the future. Dr. Bishop's clients include IBM, the NASA Johnson Space Center, the California Environmental Protection Agency, and many other prominent organizations.
Dr. Bishop is a founding board member of the new Association of Professional Futurists, and he is President of his own firm, Strategic Foresight and Development, which offers education and training in futures thinking and techniques to the corporate market.
