Event Description

Just how important IS communication during mergers and acquisitions?

As noted in the Houston Business Journal’s When Words and Action Collide, communication is a vital component of a company’s successful integration strategy.

During the February luncheon, Connie Barnaba will share valuable insight on how communications can play a key role in the success of a company merger or acquisition. For just a little more, you get twice the content.

In addition to all the great luncheon content, which provides the overview, Ms. Barnaba’s afternoon workshop will apply that information to real-world scenarios:
  • How to integrate existing and new key players, and processes, and make them work for you.
  • The critical importance of internal communications in integrating company operations.
  • How transparent communications bring customers and external stakeholders together.

About Connie Barnaba

Connie Barnaba is the founder and president of Barnaba & Associates, Inc., an independent consulting firm established in October 2002, specializing in effective change management.

A certified global professional in human resources, Connie has more than 20 years’ experience in human resource management, including change management experience with for profit and non-profit businesses, public and private sector employees, and in unionized and non-union work settings.   The inspiration for her consulting practice is the belief that the growing diversity of the U.S. workforce, globalization of U.S. businesses, and volatile economic climate will require the design and implementation of creative change and risk management strategies to ensure business agility and the effective execution of new business strategies.

Prior to establishing her consulting practice, Connie served as VP, HR Services operations, for Administaff, Inc., (recently rebranded as Insperity, Inc.) a Fortune 500 company  in Houston, listed on the Barron’s list of best-performing companies and the Forbes Platinum 400 list of the best big companies in America. With direct responsibility for customer relations management, she executed a strategy to convert a call center operation into a virtual HR service delivery system staffed by 200 professional service providers in markets across the US.  Her role included working with the Office of the General Counsel, the client, and the sales team to facilitate agreements to sensitive client non-compliance issues.

Her latest change initiative involves research on the topic of mergers and acquisitions to understand why the performance of the majority of US companies has been so consistently poor for longer than a decade with half losing value within a year following deal close.  After interviewing 100 M&A experts, she has written a book which she expects to be published later this year outlining her findings and offering a list of best practices for companies considering strategic M&A deals that require the integration of business operations.
