

Position Summary 1. Develops and coordinates public relations programs and activities in support of company and area objectives. 2. Supports Government/Regulatory efforts through media and community outreach. 3. Coordinates with other PR staff in US and to develop and support company programs and objectives to maintain consistency. 4. Responsible for all regional media relations, either responding to inquiries or proactively seeking opportunities through press releases, media tours or feature ideas. 5. Implementation and oversight of all public, media, community, and local governmental relations activities for natural gas operations and power projects located throughout the . 6. Manages and facilitates area communications and planning through the development of strategic messages, tactics and activities to communicate these messages to internal and external constituencies. 7. Manages and coordinates the communications of key objectives and messages with other departments and divisions. 8. Develops news releases, media advisories and media outreach. 9. Manages area document creation and production and serves as a resource, internally and externally, for document and information distribution. 10. Manages and oversees coordination of all community relations and philanthropic activities, including but not limited to researching contributions, coordinating activities with nonprofits, writing speeches, presentations, plant and site tours, press conferences and other communications/community relations programs for the region as well as external clients. 11. Assists with crisis management efforts and acts as company spokesperson during a crisis in the West. Supports facilities with crisis communications and media handling. 12. Prepares PRWEST portion of the annual department budget. 13. Provides public relations counsel to the region and its executive and senior staff. 14. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Develops and coordinates media/community and public relations activities to support general corporate/strategic objectives. Represents the power and fuels efforts in the Western United State while overseeing and counseling staff members on how to represent their expertise to internal/external constituencies, including the general public, media, employees, business organizations and community groups
Qualifications
1. BS in Journalism, Public Relations, Corporate Communications, or related field is required. Advance degree is preferred.
2. Experience in media handling, public relations including experience in both internal (company publications) and external (media/public relations) communications, community relations, crisis communications and special event planning.
3. Demonstrated ability to write and speak clearly, exercise independent judgment and evaluate a wide variety of regional issues. Recommends, develops, and implements solutions and responses with a minimum of supervision and oversight.
4. Knowledge of the electric utility industry and/or Calpine’s constituencies including the media, shareholders, government officials, regulatory agencies, business organizations and community groups is preferred.
5. Strong public speaking/presentation skills are necessary.
6. Willingness and ability to travel as required.
