

The Senior Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing communications strategies and tactics that support M. D. Anderson Cancer Center programs and initiatives. This position incorporates a high level of creativity, respect for confidentiality, collaborative and independent planning and decision-making, and effective problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities include:
Publications: Serves as editor of weekly F.Y.I. newsletter for M. D. Anderson patients and caregivers, including planning content, writing, editing and designing each issue. Provides writing support for several other newsletters, magazines and online projects.
Brochures: Consults with departments to understand goals and determine communication needs. Plans and completes projects to include brochures and related materials. Coordinates and oversees photography, design and printing of these projects with graphic designer.
Minimum of five years in communications, journalism, public relations or related field. Majority experience in publications, preferably in health care or academic setting.
Must operate proficiently in Microsoft Office, the Internet and Adobe InDesign. Some experience with Adobe Photoshop preferred.
Required: bachelor's degree with major in communications, journalism, English, public relations or related field. Preferred: master's degree in same.
